About us
The Amsterdam International Community School (AICS) is a Dutch International Primary and Secondary School offering international education in English to 2400 students of more than 80 different nationalities who are (temporarily) living in the Netherlands and are enjoying high quality, accessible, community based international learning.

The AICS is a partly-state-funded community school, which enables us to deliver high-quality education at competitive fees. We were the first school in the Netherlands to offer the full IB continuum (IB, PYP, MYP, DP and CP) and are a fully accredited member of the Council of International Schools (CIS).

This is what you bring
You are passionate about reading and libraries, have experience working with children aged 4-18 years, and you are able to work as a team member in the library and in the school. You are also an excellent communicator, able to support students and staff with many different social, emotional and educational needs who come from different cultural backgrounds and countries.

You need to be:

  • well-organised and very tidy
  • a problem solver and open to new ideas
  • someone who not only participates in supporting the vision and goals of the library, but who also actively supports improvement
  • able to provide library services to students, staff and parents
  • able to maintain a computerised catalogue and to use library & research software
  • fluent in spoken and written English
  • available on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm and on Wednesdays from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm

Preferred candidates have:

  • practical experience in teaching, especially Secondary students
  • experience in research using research databases (experienced teaching research skills would be a plus)
  • excellent software skills (experience in library cataloguing software would be appreciated)
  • practical experience working with children aged 4-18 years
  • a residence/work permit for the Netherlands

About the position
For our AICS Libraries, we are looking for a Secondary Library Assistant, who will work in a library team with six colleagues and parent volunteers. The library team and volunteers are led by the Head of Libraries. Situated at the heart of the AICS, the libraries are exciting and dynamic places. Each primary class comes once a week for 30 minutes of book selection and librarian-led storytime. In addition to supporting primary classes when necessary, you will lead library & research strategy workshops for secondary students (MYP1–DP2/CP2), both in class and in 1-on-1 sessions with students. Students and teachers visit on a regular basis to look for library resources, and the library also welcomes parents after school hours. As such, you should feel confident being part of a large school community and enjoy working as part of a professional team.

  • Pay scale 6, based upon knowledge and experience (min. €2.672 -max. €3.610, full-time per month, before tax)

We offer a temporary contract for 0.9 FTE with the possibility of a permanent position after one year based on proven suitability.
