The Amsterdam International Community School (AICS) is a growing international school in Amsterdam. The AICS) is looking for a colleague to support us in further developing one of the focus areas of our new school plan. We believe that in engaging in performing arts together, fosters a sense of community and belonging. We are looking for a talented colleague to bring the performing arts to life at our two campuses.

The ideal candidate is not only a skilled performing arts teacher but also a natural connector, a creative initiator, and a collaborative team player who is deeply invested in building a strong sense of community within the international school through the power of the arts.
General aims
- To help the school community cultivate its school culture, and foster a strong sense of community, using the performing arts, in an international environment.
- To create sustainable events and procedures that involve visual and performing arts, engaging and bringing the wider school community together on a regular basis.
- Create and produce events that will give students an opportunity to shine and at the same time enhance the sense of community with the audience made of school families and friends.
- Collaborate with the existing Arts team to produce events (both curriculum-based and after school events).
- Create ensembles (that perform or plug into national or local competitions) that provide students with a sense of identity and give the school community something to root for.
- Liaise with local art institutions to do projects in school. Music, dance, theatre, DJ, etc.
- Work with APS to collaborate on community events together.
Passion for the Performing Arts
- Genuine Enthusiasm: A clear love for music, dance, and theatre that is contagious and inspires students.
- Broad Artistic Appreciation: An openness to various performing arts genres and a willingness to explore diverse cultural expressions.
- Creative Vision for events and artistic concepts that resonate with the school community. The ability to envision and develop engaging events and ensemble concepts.
Experience in Performing Arts in Education
- International experience teaching PA and leading PA educational teams.
- Experience in developing PA projects in an international context, using diverse cultures.
- Affinity and experience with a wide range of performing arts genres.
Experience in Performing Arts outside of Education
- Experience with community PA ensembles (choirs)
- Experience and network in the professional music industry (musicals, bands, tv productions)
Experience and skills in the space of Arts and Wellbeing
- Experience on the impact of PA on student well-being and mental health.
- Knowledge of the psychological aspects of the impact of PA on student well-being.
Community Building and Interpersonal Skills
- Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication to interact effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and external partners.
- Empathy and Inclusivity: A genuine care for students' wellbeing and the ability to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all abilities and backgrounds.
- Collaboration and Teamwork: A proven ability to work effectively within a team, particularly with the existing Arts instructional team, and to foster collaboration among students.
- Relationship Building: The capacity to build positive relationships with students, families, school staff, and local arts institutions.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Awareness and respect for the diverse cultural backgrounds within an international school community.
Organizational and Leadership Skills
- Project Management: The ability to plan, organize, and execute events and ensemble activities effectively.
- Initiative and Proactiveness: A self-starter who can identify opportunities for community building through the arts and act.
- Flexibility and Adaptability: The capacity to adjust plans and approaches based on student needs, resources, and unforeseen circumstances.
- Resourcefulness: The ability to find and utilize available resources effectively, including local arts connections.

Working at AICS means working at an internationally oriented school with an open work culture. In addition, AICS offers:
- Gross monthly salary: min. € 3.484,- max. € 6.992,- (pay scale LC/LD) full-time base;

AICS offers a one year contract starting from 1 August 2025 until 31 July 2026 for 0,8/1,0 FTE with the option of a permanent contract after one year.
About the Amsterdam International Community School (AICS)
The AICS is a Dutch International Primary and Secondary School. Our vision statement is to be a community where learning is at the heart of everything we do. The mission of the AICS is to facilitate high quality, accessible, community-based international learning for students of all nationalities living in The Netherlands.
The AICS was the first school in the Netherlands to offer the full IB continuum (IB PYP, MYP, DP, and CP). Together with a number of other national Dutch schools we form the ‘Esprit School Group’.
We are a partly-state-funded community school, which enables us to deliver high-quality education at competitive fees. The AICS is a fully-accredited member of the Council of International Schools (CIS) and offers international education to internationally-mobile students from over 70 different nationalities.
The AICS currently offers Primary education to students aged 4-11 and Secondary education to students aged 11-19. The main language of instruction for classes is English. The AICS is located in two campuses, both in the city of Amsterdam: AICS South and AICS South East.
